Toronto, ON May 23, 2003 The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers has announced the election of London-area consulting engineer Daniel J Young, MEng, PEng, as its president and chair for 2003-2004, and Annette Bergeron, PEng, as its vice-chair and secretary.
Young and Bergeron were elected to their positions by the society’s new board of directors, whose members took office immediately following the organization’s annual general meeting on May 10 in Toronto.
Young has served on the boards of University Hospital, the Victoria Hospital, the University of Western Ontario, King’s College, the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario and London Hydro. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from McGill University and a Masters in Environmental Engineering from the University of Western Ontario.
Kingston-area engineer Annette Bergeron works with Queen’s University as an adjunct instructor chemical engineering and director of first year studies for the faculty of applied science.
Following a province-wide referendum three years ago, Ontario’s engineers created the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers to champion their interests with governments and provide needed member services. In the wake of the Walkerton tragedy, the organization has been particularly vocal on the issue of safe drinking water, advising Ontario ministries and politicians from all parties on how to make community water systems safer.
