Biovail opens new corporate HQ in Mississauga

Toronto, ON June 18, 2003 – Pharmaceutical company Biovail celebrated the official opening of its new corporate headquarters in Mississauga today.

Over two hundred guests and employees gathered in front of the 60,000 sq ft headquarters with its signature glass atrium shaped like an Erlenmeyer beaker.

“The opening of our new corporate headquarters signifies another major milestone in Biovail’s development from the small, technology-based specialty pharmaceutical organization as it was in 1989, to the young and fast-growing full-service pharmaceutical company that it is now,” said Eugene Melnyk, Biovail’s chairman and chief executive officer.

Guests included Hazel McCallion, mayor of Mississauga. Also in attendance as a speaker was MaryAnn Mihychuk, Manitoba minister of industry, trade and mines. Biovail has a large manufacturing facility in Steinbach, Manitoba and plays an active role in boosting research and development in that province. “With the recent expansion of their manufacturing facility in Steinbach, Biovail has become an important player in the economic infrastructure of Manitoba,” said Ms Mihychuk.

Founded in l989, the company has grown from 45 employees to over 1,800 with facilities in Canada, the US and Europe.
