DuPont Canada funds news chair in engineering education, research and development

Kingston, ON July 22, 2003 At a ceremony today, Queen’s University and DuPont Canada announced the appointment of Dr Caroline Baillie as head of the DuPont Canada chair in engineering education, research and development in the university’s faculty of applied science.

The DuPont Canada chair is a key component of the faculty’s vision for integrated learning, which combines a new learning facility with a restructured curriculum to prepare graduates for the challenges and complexities of the engineering profession of the 21st century.

Dr Baillie has held tenured positions in engineering at the University of Sydney (1992-96) and Imperial College in London (1996-2003). For the past three years, she has been seconded from Imperial to be the deputy director at the UK Centre for Materials Education, University of Liverpool. She obtained her PhD from the University of Surrey, department of materials, in 1991 and her Master of Higher Education at the University of New South Wales in 1995. She has been awarded over 15 teaching development and education research grants in order to improve the learning of materials engineering students. Dr Baillie has over 100 publications including 50 journal articles, books and chapters.
