Interim president appointed for National Research Council

Ottawa, ON – April 2, 2004 – Dr Michael Raymont has been named interim president of the National Research Council (NRC). Dr Raymont is replacing Dr Arthur J Carty, who is assuming the position of national science advisor to the prime minister.

“Dr Carty has continuously spearheaded exceptional achievements at the NRC and we are delighted that he is being recognized and named as national science advisor,” says Lucienne Robillard, federal minister of industry. “Today we welcome Dr Raymont as interim president and are confident that his wealth of knowledge surrounding business and technology commercialization will be an asset to the NRC.”

Dr Raymont holds the position of vice-president, technology and industry support for the NRC. He has principal responsibility for major national programs, including the Industrial Research Assistance Program, which provides technology support to industry, universities and various levels of government. Other national programs for which he is responsible include the Canadian Technology Network and the Canada Institute for Science and Technical Information – North America’s largest science, technology and medical library. In addition, he provides strategic leadership to NRC’s two technology centres.
