Chief executive appointed for new genome organization

Calgary, AB – The recently created Genome Alberta has appointed Dr David Bailey as its new president and CEO.

Dr Bailey obtained his PhD in genetics and animal breeding at the University of Alberta in 1985 and began working with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada starting as a research scientist in Lethbridge. He was later appointed research centre director before becoming director general in 2003. In that capacity, he managed and directed national research programs in food safety, quality and processing which involved 270 staff members at 11 federal research centres across Canada.

Founded last fall, Genome Alberta operates in partnership with Genome Canada and is dedicated to research, development and commercialization in the new discipline of genomics. The organization plans to be among the top functional genomics research centres in the world by the year 2010.
