Research organization announces senior management changes


Edmonton, AB – The Alberta Research Council recently announced some high-level staff appointments.

Gail Powley, P Eng, has been appointed vice-president strategic development to strengthen the organizations capacity to develop and collaboratively implement strategic initiatives to support Albertas economic development and long-term sustainable prosperity. Ms Powley has over 20 years of chemical engineering expertise in the refining, oil sands, pulp and paper and chemical industries to her role. She was most recently the vice-president of strategic initiatives at Matrikon.

Dr Ian Potter has been appointed vice-president energy. Since joining ARC six years ago, Dr Potter has served in several management positions in sustainable energy and climate change. In his new role, he will provide executive leadership in carbon conversion, capture and storage, bitumen and heavy oil recovery, value-added petroleum processing and enhanced oil and gas recovery.

Ron Gilbertson has been appointed vice-president engineered products and services, moving from his previous position of vice-president new ventures. Gilbertson will lead ARCs activities related to the development of new materials and processing technologies in the energy and forestry sectors as well as measurement and monitoring systems employing specialized sensor devices.
