NanoQuebec launches program aimed at increasing competitiveness

Montreal, QC – NanoQuebec has unveiled a a new program, with a budget of $700,000, designed to support industry-university pilot projects. The program’s goals are to increase the adoption of nanotechnology in Quebec companies and promote the creation of research partnerships between companies and universities. The program will leverage additional funding sources for total investments of nearly $2.5 million.

Proposals submitted for consideration will be evaluated in terms of their potential impact on one of Quebec’s key industrial sectors, their innovativeness, and the level of collaboration between researchers and industry.

“We are very happy to be launching this initiative, which we are certain will help strengthen nanotechnology innovation and, ultimately, promote sustainable economic growth in Quebec,” said Robert Nault, NanoQuebec CEO. “In order to remain competitive, Quebec companies must meet the challenge of nanotechnology, and the creation of strong industry-university ties is the most effective way to do that.”

An information and networking session was held in Montreal on Monday, September 25, with over 150 researchers and industry representatives expected to attend and discuss potential nanotechnology project partnerships. The projects selected for further support will be announced at the organization’s NANO2007 conference in February 2007.
