Cancer research institute receives $160,000 funding

Fredericton, NB – The Populomix Cancer Research Institute, a non- profit private institute created to increase the effectiveness of cancer research in Atlantic Canada by fostering multi-site, collaborative cancer research, has received $160,000 in funding from the federal government.

The funds will help the institute to develop an application for funding of a major pancreatic cancer research project. In addition, funding will support bringing top researchers to participate in the institute’s Distinguished Lecturer Series, and will help enable provision of internship and professor exchange programs with partner institutions such as the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre.

“The support … will enable Populomix to continue our push to develop truly collaborative research programs in Atlantic Canada, bring world-class experts to the region and support scientific exchanges with other research institutes,” said Warren McKenzie, the institute’s chairman.
