$2.2M supports research into efficient use of fertilizer

Maxville, ON – The Canadian Fertilizer Institute is receiving a total of $2.2 million in funding over three years to support a research project entitled “A Canadian Research Network to Improve 4R Nutrient Stewardship for Environmental Health and Crop Production”. The project will focus on improving the efficient use of fertilizer, while reducing the environmental impacts and input costs, and creating competitive advantages for producers through improved crop production.

Half the funding is being provided by Agriculture Canada while the other half is coming from the fertilizer industry itself.

The institute will work with the 4R Nutrient Stewardship research network on the research project to develop and test best management practices and support systems for fertilizer use tailored to Canadian soils, climates and cropping systems. The 4R Nutrient Stewardship is a cross-Canada research network involving scientists from 11 universities and research institutes.
