$1.8M for research to eliminate multiple sclerosis

Montreal, QC – The Quebec Division of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada says it has paid its largest-ever amount of over $1.8 million into the organization’s national research fund to discover the cause of and a cure for multiple sclerosis.

This amount brings the total for the last five years to almost $6 million. “Fiscal 2004-2005 represented the eleventh consecutive year of growth, and we are happy that we can continue to allocate equal shares of our revenue to research and to services for people with multiple sclerosis,” says Franois Coupal, the chairman of the board of directors of the Quebec Division of the MS Society and an Associate Partner at Accenture.

In March 2005, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and the MS Scientific Research Foundation announced funding of $2.25 million for a new stem-cell study. This three-year project will be conducted by specialists at three North American institutions: the Hotchkiss Brain Institute in Calgary, the Mayo Clinic in the US, and the Montreal Neurological Institute.
