Alda Pharmaceuticals scientific advisory board appointments

Vancouver, BC – February 4, 2004 – Alda Pharmaceuticals has appointed Dr Brian Conway and Dr Michael Wilby to its scientific advisory board.

Dr Conway graduated from McGill University medical school in 1982 where he subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine. Following post- graduate training in infectious diseases at the University of Manitoba, he attended Harvard University where, he was awarded a Medical Research Council of Canada HIV/AIDS fellowship. From 1990 to 1994, he instructed in the departments of medicine and microbiology & immunology at the University of Ottawa. In 1994 Dr Conway accepted a position at the British Columbia Center for Excellence in HIV/AIDS at St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, BC. He is currently on staff in the department of pharmacology & therapeutics at the University f British Columbia. Dr Conway is also a coordinator of the Downtown Infectious Diseases Clinic and an infectious diseases consultant at the Pender Community Health Center in Vancouver.

Dr Conway has over 80 publications to his credit. His many honors include young investigator awards from the Canadian Infectious Diseases Society (1992) and the Canadian Association for HIV Research (1993). In 1998, he received an award of excellence from the Canadian Hemophilia Society for his life-long work with HIV and other blood-borne infections. He is actively involved in the evaluation of new anti-HIV drugs and has been awarded a number of grants to study acute/early HIV infection and treatment of infections in intravenous drug users.

Dr Conway conducted the original tests on the effectiveness of Viralex against HIV. He has a thorough understanding of protocols and requirements for product development.

Dr Wilby is a graduate of McGill University in general dentistry. He pursued his specialty training in periodontology at the University of Oregon. He has established private practices in Vancouver BC, Richmond BC and Whitehorse, Yukon Territories. He is a member of numerous dental organizations and has lectured in the periodontology department at the University of British Columbia. Dr Wilby is a director and founder of ALDA Pharmaceuticals, with a strong foundation in infection control.
