Arctic research infrastructure and station plans move forward

Iqaluit, Nunavut – The federal government has announced an invitation to applicants for a new fund to upgrade Arctic science infrastructure facilities. In addition, the government says three locations are being considered for Canada’s new High Arctic Research Station.

The Arctic Research Infrastructure Fund draws from a federal budget commitment to provide $85 million over the next two years to upgrade key Arctic science and technology facilities.

Communities being considered for the new research station are: Cambridge Bay, Pond Inlet and Resolute, all of which are in Nunavut. At the same time, the government says it is undertaking a $2 million feasibility study that will establish preliminary cost and design needs of the station and evaluate these potential locations in depth.
