CEO named for phenogenomics centre

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Centre for Phenogenomics (TCP) has appointed Dr Colin McKerlie as chief executive officer.

Dr McKerlie is a veterinary pathologist and scientist who holds positions with the Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children and the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital. He is also an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Previously, he was director of the department of comparative research at Sunnybrook & Women’s College Hospital and was interim CEO responsible for the planning and construction of the new centre, which opened in October 2007.

He received his DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1991, his MRCVS from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in London, and his DVSc in comparative pathology from the University of Guelph in 1997.

The Toronto Centre for Phenogenomics is a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Toronto’s Discovery District that will enable groundbreaking research and discovery with the goal of advancing human health. A collaboration among four founding member research hospitals: Mount Sinai Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children, and University Health Network, the centre is the largest vivarium in Canada with 110,000 gross sq ft of custom-designed research space. It also supports key areas of biomedical research at its member hospitals including stem cell research and regenerative medicine.
