Calgary, AB – February 12, 2004 – Petro-Canada today donated the Petro-Canada Building, valued at $6.9 million, to the University of Calgary.
Constructed in 1978, the 60,000 sq ft building has been leased to the University of Calgary since 1991. The building currently houses the faculty of engineering’s department of mechanical and manufacturing engineering and is located in the University Research Park.
Over the years, research conducted in the building has furthered the development of spinal testing instruments, sour gas pipelines and submarine stealth engines.
Laura Lucier, a graduate from the university who is now working at the Lyndon B Johnson Space Center credits her achievements to her experiences in the research building. “This is wonderful news for the university,” says Ms Lucier. “The donation will help to ensure that engineering students continue to receive the skills they need to further their careers.”
