Prostate cancer research funding to help revamp labs

Vancouver, BC – The Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital, part of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and an affiliated institute of the University of British Columbia, is receiving $7.6 million from the provincial government. The funding is intended to further the centre’s work helping researchers develop new ways to diagnose and treat prostate cancer.

Most of the funding will be used to buy equipment. It will also help renovate and expand laboratories at the centre, which has earned an international reputation for the diagnostic and treatment concepts developed by its scientists, who are UBC researchers and also members of Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

“The Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital is already the largest comprehensive research and treatment clinic of its kind in Canada. This multi-million dollar boost from the BC government will further enhance its ability to translate research discoveries from the scientists’ labs to patient care,” says Ida Goodreau, president and CEO of Vancouver Coastal Health.
