Registration opens for Pittcon 2012

Pittsburgh, PA – Pittcon 2012 has opened registration for its upcoming conference and exposition on laboratory science that will take place from March 11-15, 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.

One of the world’s largest events devoted to laboratory science, Pittcon is organized by The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, which is comprised of the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP). The annual conference and exposition attracts nearly 20,000 attendees from industry, academia and government from 90 countries worldwide.

The Pittcon Program Committee also recently announced that Dr R Graham Cooks, Henry B Hass Distinguished Professor, Analytical Chemistry, Purdue University, will deliver the Pittcon 2012 Plenary Lecture, entitled “Ambient Ionization and Mini Mass Spectrometers: In situ MS for Everyone.” The Plenary Lecture will be part of the Opening Session for Pittcon 2012.

Dr Cooks received PhD degrees from the University of Natal (now QuaZulu-Natal) and Cambridge University. His interests involve construction of mass spectrometers and their use in fundamental studies and applications. His involvement in minimizing sample work-up and avoiding chromatography contributed to the development of the ambient ionization methods, including desorption electrospray ionization (DESI).

The Plenary Lecture will take place on Sunday March 11, 2012 at 4:30 in the Orange County Convention Center.
