Science and technology incubators get $495,000 in funding support

Winnipeg, MB – Two business incubators that support new companies in the science and technology area have received a total of $495,000 in support from Manitoba’s provincial government.

  The funds provided by the province will assist in maintaining the current operations in Manitoba of Biomedical Commercialization Canada and Smartpark’s Eureka Project. Approximately 20 companies are currently receiving services from these two organizations.

 “Today’s announcement is good news for early-stage science and technology companies in Manitoba,” said Marshall Ring, executive director of Biomedical Commercialization Canada. “At BCC our purpose is to help early-stage science and technology companies go from great ideas to great businesses.”

 Winnipeg-based Biomedical Commercialization Canada (BCC) provides resources and people to help innovators, entrepreneurs and startup companies build science- and technology-based opportunities. Its focus is on fields including health and biomedical security, medical devices and information technology.

 Also located in Winnipeg, Eureka Project is currently home to 12 technology-based companies in the areas of nutritional and agricultural sciences, information and communications technology, engineering and advanced materials, health and biotechnology, and environmental solutions.
