Toronto, ON – September 27, 2004 – The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) has released a detailed report from its survey of employers on engineers’ salaries. In year-over-year comparison data, the report revealed an increase of 3.6% in median base salary for professional engineers across a range of industries, outstripping a rise of only 2.4% in the consumer price index (CPI) for Ontario from 2003 to 2004.
Within the consulting sector, which comprises a large portion of employed engineers in Ontario, growth in median base salary was higher at 3.8%. At the same time, entry-level salaries dipped slightly across all sectors. Engineers’ average take-home pay package is worth $84,384.
“This survey is one of our most important pieces of research and we are, of course, very pleased to see a boost in engineers’ salaries this year,” says Annette Bergeron, MBA, PEng, president and chair of OSPE. “I encourage all engineers and employers of engineers to use these data as a valuable tool in benchmarking compensation for the coming year.”
A total of 147 organizations across all major industry groups in both private and public sectors provided pay data covering 11,626 engineering positions.
