Water research to be strengthened at Alberta hub

Lethbridge, AB – $10 million in funding from Alberta’s government will help the completion of the University of Lethbridge’s new Alberta Water and Environmental Science Building. The facility will support research on watersheds, water ecology and commercial water use.

The funding brings total provincial funding for the project to $22 million. The 5,300 sq m buildings laboratories and classrooms will help develop first-class water research programs.

The University of Lethbridge is the administrative hub for the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research, and the centre’s research supported the creation of the Alberta Water Research Institute, one of the Alberta Ingenuity Institutes.

Water research is priority for the province, and Alberta Ingenuity has long supported efforts in this area through the Ingenuity Centre for Water Research and now the Water Institute, said Dr. Peter Hackett, President and CEO of Alberta Ingenuity. This new facility will strengthen our research efforts and serve as a collaborative hub for researchers working on the pressing issues Alberta faces with its water resources.
