E. coli rapid test receives FDA clearance

With E. coli contamination in the news it is fortunate that a quick test will be available soon. The TechlabShiga Toxin Quik Chek test has been approved for the U.S. market by the Food and Drug Administration. This rapid diagnostic can detect Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), which can have fatal effects, directly from a stool specimen. The test removes the need for overnight bacterial culture preparation. The test’s considerably shorter sample preparation process also helps to streamline laboratory workflows.
